Support beyond the Closet

Caring for children with complex histories requires emotional strength, time and community support. Beyond essential items, Oak Forest Foster Closet provides programs and experiences designed to strengthen families, create joy and help children feel seen, valued and included.

Our programs grow as needs grow, and every offering exists because families deserve more than just the basics.

Programs

School Support

Our School Support Program partners with 20 local public schools to identify and support students who are in foster care, kinship care, adoption journeys, or facing significant hardship. We provide clothing, shoes, hygiene items, and other essentials that remove barriers to learning and wellbeing. This program expands our ability to support children in care while also strengthening the broader community around them.

The Olivia Abigail Memorial Activity Fund helps foster and kinship children access enrichment opportunities that would otherwise be out of reach for many families. Scholarships are available to assist with application fees, registration costs, and class or camp expenses for activities such as sports, music, art, and more.

Applications are reviewed by a committee, and funds are awarded based on availability. All payments go directly to the activity provider. This program is open to foster and kinship children with current placement documentation.

Community Experiences

Our Community Events program brings joy, connection, and meaningful experiences to the families we serve. Throughout the year, we provide gift cards to restaurants and family-friendly activities, helping caregivers create special moments together. We are also blessed to receive donated Rodeo and Carnival tickets, giving our families the chance to enjoy unforgettable Houston traditions at no cost.
